What is Intramuscular Conscious Sedation Dentistry?
Intramuscular conscious sedation dentistry involves the administering of a dental sedative into the patient’s upper arm or thigh – into the muscle tissue – at the beginning of her or her appointment. The sedative takes effect in approximately five to twenty minutes, inducing a state of deep relaxation in which the patient experiences little or no anxiety about her procedure. The dentist monitors the patient’s blood pressure and breathing throughout treatment, maximizing the safety of the treatment. The sedative effect usually wears off within several hours after the procedure.
